Hair 10! by Kapaychan Hair 10! by Kapaychan
I've been enjoying the episodes of Omniverse so far :iconawwwplz: I don't quite know why but Blukic and Driba Go to Mr Smoothies, Arrested Development and Bros in Space were downright heart-stealing. Maybe it's transference of my current feelings for my other show but I doubt that. I think something's definitely improving. But I haven't had the ability to navel-gaze on why so I can't really write a review either. There is, however, an obvious bump in animation lately (my sister said, "Hey, no more missing frames and we didn't get treated to slideshow fight scenes!" Note: My sister created a powerpoint of Rath fighting with Khyber and asked to be paid for her hardwork after that one episode) and the focus on Rook on the most recent episode was wonderful. I totally Rook/Rayona SO HARD. Ahmagahd I gotta do something for those two. They reminded me of Benlie in AF and all the flufftastic feelings. I will fic or art that thing soon enough.

In the meantime, I just noticed Ben's many hairdos through the different series. So since he's so metro, I had to do something on it. That's still Ben and Julie mucking with their hair on the last one, Julie's just wearing a wig and Ben's just abusing hair gel. :iconteheplz: I will color this.

EDIT: Am I the only one who sees this when staring at Julie’s new design? :icontwitchingplz: I just… It’s the art style. Instead of looking like the adorable Hinata-chan with the longish hair, she looks more like Rock Lee. :iconiwannagohomenowplz: :iconalcoholicguymemeplz: At least Ben 23 just looks utterly fruity, which brings me much amusement. :iconteheplz:

My sister goes in defense with, “No, he just looks preppy.” And I’d be like, “Heck no. He’s bloody fruity, man.” I am, however, still enjoying episodes. It's starting to feel like Twilight Zone 'round here. I exclaimed: "Four episodes of awesome in a row!" :faint:

…And, uh, spoilers?

Nice work!!! <3 I love the hairstyles! XD

Julie is so cute! XD Oh my! I mistaked them for Naruto and Hinata!

When I saw Julie in Omniverse, I knew that you would draw her with the hair down. I imagined her looking like Hinata! :lmao: I was so right!

I'm glad you like it! Ben had a lot of hairstyles over the different series, it's fun to play around with it.

 Yes.

It made it easy to make the connection. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought so. :iconteheplz:

Damn, really sorry I didn't give a "Need plenty of Sanity Watcher's Points to view" warning. :XD: It's awful that my first reaction was thinking she looks awfully like a racist Asian caricature with that hairstyle and her facial design that all she needs is a triangular woven hat. :iconverynotimpressedplz: I hope I'm the only one who had that kind of a knee-jerk revulsion response to the image. But I'm guessing not.

I don't know. But I really doubt there's any love for the character to begin with from the designer so I guess I'm not surprised about how horribly it all turned out.

Hey, that happens with me a lot too. I can never quite like a character that's more generally liked. My favourites tend to be perceived as useless, annoying, and other such denigrating comments. :XD: It's not just the fans, it always feels like the writers have conceded to that nonsense belief.

My favorite seasons of anything are also the ones everyone seems to rag on: Kamen Rider Ryuki for being too "confusing," Kamen Rider Den-O for being too funny, Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters for not having a good focus (okay, I'll agree on that point, but it really picks up). And I'm prepping myself to get roasted when I get to reviewing Kamen Rider Decade and have to explain why I'm not a big fan of the beloved original Kamen Rider Kuuga, Yusuke Godai.

:lmao: My most disliked character in Samurai happens to be Deker, who I heard everyone else seems to like. I know how that feels. You'd provide a good back up reason for why anyway. And I can't wait to read your differing opinions to the masses.

It kind of reminds me of the same feel of Many Happy Returns in the preview. I was enjoying it quite a bit and I'm starting to establish that Looma might be one of my favorite villains ever introduced in Omniverse. She just seriously cracks me up with her overzealous Bridezilla level wedding planning. XD:

I hadn't noticed any difference between his hair in AF and UA?
Now I got to go look at screencaps.
I like the spikey hair at the end!

There wasn't any difference. The second hairstyle is what he looks like all through AF/UA. The first hairstyle goes back to original series. It's a spikier more animesque style to his more smoothed out, cleaner look from the sequel series. :giggle: Glad you like it! I adore it too. Suits him, surprisingly. But I'll have to color this to really get the right impact.

I'm glad to see someone liked the "Blukic and Driba" episode; there was this guy on the TV Tropes forum who pitched a (surprisingly civil and grammatical) fit over it for some reason or another.

People are free to pitch a fit over it. I find it to be humorous on the respect that it's so nuts and utterly nonsensical, with all the characters except Ben and Rook having really poor objectives, that I adore it beyond description. It was cracktastic and trollish. Eugene Son's humor in good form, as always. I wouldn't discourage other people throwing fits over episodes because So Long and Thanks For All The Smoothies does the exact same thing to me. :XD: And no one can censor my vicious rage over that episode.

Yay! You're doing Ben 10 art again! The expressions are adorable and the variety of hairstyles work well.

As much as it pains my bitter "Alien Force" fan boy, I'll admit that the recent string of episodes of "Omniverse" have faired better than I expected. "Blukic and Driba" was good for a couple laughs, made better by the fact that the humor didn't come from the detriment of the heroes, "Malefactor" showed a side of Ben that has been sorely lacking and "Bros in Space" offered good development for Rook (though the second half had a couple problems I could go into detail about). "Arrested Development", on the other hand, I just don't understand why that episode has garnered positive reception...

Again, its a great piece.

Thanks. I'm personally not a fan of Malefactor. It was dull to me and I felt like whatever it explored about Ben has already been explored/handled (Hero Time) and unlearned earlier and I would expect it to be unlearned again. One thing I can say about it is that Yuri's voice acting in Malefactor is unbelievably amazing (which doesn't coincide with the art's inability to act alongside him, but oh well) The non-arc episodes have been doing a good job keeping my interest so far.

That's surprising, since I felt that episode was the most flattering for Ben and I expected you to adamantly defend it. Still, I also had a problem with the writers rehashing the theme of Ben's ego, a crutch that they constantly rely on to my chargin, as well as dedicating an entire flashback to Khyber's efforts to find predator DNA which was already explained in "Of Predators and Prey", made even more annoying by the ending where Max and Ben loudly pondered what Malware was up to. Then again, to each their own.

As I not-so-subtley segued, I was not a fan of "Arrested Development". The idea of the heroes being de-aged to children is a stock action/comedy cartoon plot line I've never been a fan of (not helped by the fact that they did it in the original series), it ran on dopey "Siver Age" science, and I also thought Billy Billions felt out of place. The spoiled child billionaire/evil genius and childhood rival was something I'd expect from "Fairly Oddparents" or "Johnny Test", and while I give the original series flack, at least it had villains who were genuinely threatening like Vilgax or Clancy. To me, the filler episodes continue their trend of being watchable, but nothing worth justifying a fourth series beyond heavy-handed continuity nods.

His hair is so voluminous as poofy. It's adorably girly. :iconteheplz: he doesn't actually have wavy hair, which I noticed when I drew his hairstyle very directly from the strange stylised art implemented into my own. It's just big and skull-shape distorting. He loves his mousse, that boy. :iconteheplz:

I have a much heavier question than that: why in the world does this show not have a prominent female character in the cast? They're always love interests or background characters, more like scenery than characters. :iconverynotimpressedplz: To answer Rayona's quick appearance as disappearance question: Girls are gross and have cooties, I suppose. God, Omniverse.

XD Apparently that's the case. Heck, and only one instance of Rook being attacked by his Revonnah-fan-ders? I was waiting for a huge wave of ladies to glomp him during harvest time.

XD Apparently so! XP I hate the idea of EVERY DARN GIRL having to be either some random passerby or a love interest. They need some ACTUAL strong-characterized female roles, goshdarnit! And this is coming from someone who isn't often fond of female characters!

They don't like drawing too many icky girls in this show. But I guess it happened offscreen? :XD

I'm kind of proud of this show's ability to have such a diverse unstereotyped cast of characters, extremely numerous and all very fascinating. I just adored that, but Omniverse is now getting severely limited and it's leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Just the lack of a main heroine? I am very disappointed. It's discriminatory against humans, females and too many others to mention. But I'll keep my eye out for it to eventually change that tendency. They have started to improve in certain aspects and I'm sure it'll keep attempting to improve. It's a new series and it's easy to stumble at the start. The good team that worked with the past series is still there, with enough freedom to do more interesting things they can get back on the old game that made this show above the mediocre. I still believe in that.

I just realized watching the episode as well that we've been referring to Rook by his last name rather than his given name. It was a fascinating discovery.

Well, I guess to boost your hope, I found that Julie will make an appearance a few episodes from now. Maybe that's good, or maybe not ^^; I can't tell anymore, not with Justin Bieber-ized Ben, a bearded Plumber Tetrax (??), a butt ugly Eon and Professor PIMP Paradox on the way :icondoublefacepalmplz:

I don't mind sticking with Rook and still referring to him by his last name. I've stuck with names of characters I originally called them despite finding out actual names - I still call Yamato-taicho the same even knowing his real name is Tenzou.

Ugh. I'll be honest, I'm still not sure i want Julie back in this show. I keep on saying that I'd prefer them to never mention her again especially if we have a 'pick and choose continuity' brought on by that vile So Long and Thanks For All the Smoothies episode. But eh, I am glad to see Professor Paradox back because I adore him and he brings plenty of awesome with him (some of the best episodes in the previous series were with Paradox). A Plumber Tetrax? What? Why? ...No, I refuse to wargle garble again over this show. I'm just going to have to deal and ignore the things that bug me. Like that robot fart of a theme song. :hmm:

Sadly, so will I. :noes: I mean, "Ben Again" was confusing as it is, but I liked the idea of a time war plot (Whovian creators, much? :XD:), but noooo. We'll apparently be moving on to Justin Bieber Dimension 23 Ben and Tetrax, Gourmands at war (I think), and other Omniverse shenanigans.

That's funny. I also felt the same way about the show around episode 9. It really has grown on me. Things I didn't like at first like Blukic & Driba and Kickin Hawk have now grown on me.
And on top of it the ratings for the 7-11 am CN block keep going up. The only show denting their ratings is TMNT on Nick.

Mind you, I've stopped caring about the actual arc. I can't be bothered to find out what it's one about. It's too boring and generic to care for. The last time it was engaging was back in "Of Predators And Prey" two parter. So I'm mainly interested in the humor-centered episodes starting from "Blukic and Driba go to Mr Smoothies". They've been fun. I don't really regard the popularity of te show as a gauge for its quality, but I do congratulate it for being so successful for its target audience.
